View Full Version : Region-hacking (is it worth doing?)

There's a new device for the Wii called "WODE - Wii Optical Drive Emulator" that allows you to play games from any region.

I wouldn't have mentioned it here, but the device is the simplest 'solution' to come out for current-gen consoles.

If only they could do this for DSiWare, I'd pick it up immediately to play all those lovely SHMUPs~

So are any of you adventurous enough to check this kind of thing out,
or are you content just sticking with a console that's region-specific?

Okay, that writeup is enormous and even my eyes are too glossed-over at 2:18 AM to go through it, but I agree with your sentiment that if only it applied to downloadable games I'd care so much more. There are probably over twenty Virtual Console games (I can think of at least sixteen, and that's not counting the two versions of Legend of Valkyrie separately) on the Japanese Shop Channel now that I'd buy (even still in full Japanese) if they were put up here.

But for Wii disc games I'd want that weren't localized and aren't going to be, shoot if I know what I'd buy. :pangya

Um...looks kinda complicated and a little risky for my taste. If a freeloader kind of application was build for the wii in mind then I might have given it a try :/

I didn't read the article but things of this nature always scare me. Who's to say a system update wont disable this thing? Then you have a big brick.

I'll stick with my Homebrew Channel apps for these purposes. :megaman

And so far, I've only imported Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Fatal Frame Wii. Tales of Graces...we'll see, here's hoping!
