View Full Version : Frivolous things you do in video games

We all do them, I think--we never stop jumping in platformers even when we don't have to, we make challenges for ourselves like beating an RPG without using certain character classes or spells, and we move characters or shoot weapons in time with the music. What silly things do you do just for fun? (And hey: if we find any responses particularly interesting, maybe we'll post them on our main page one day. ;) )

Personally, I'm fond of everything I mentioned with my examples, but my favorite is making Mega Man do the shuffle during downtime between jumps in Mega Man 9's Twin Devils battle. Tap lightly back and forth to shuffle his feet without moving!

[Much later edit: I posted an example of what I mean on the main page for the Gamers' Choice Video feature. Putting it in here too.]

Well, since you brought up Mega Man, I always find fun and interesting ways to go through the doors preceding boss battles in those games. Jumping is the main method, of course, but there are other ways. For example: clinging to the door and sliding through while still in the climbing frames (especially in Mega Man Zero), going through while invisible with the Chameleon Sting (Mega Man X), and flying through with the Rush Jet Suit/Treble Boost Adaptor in Mega Man 6 and Mega Man and Bass respectively.

Besides that...I've done various challenge runs of different RPGs (a low-level game of Final Fantasy VI, for example), I jump far more than is needed in platformers, and I feel a compulsive urge to kill every enemy I see regardless of whether doing so is necessary or even practical.

I don't know if this counts, but I always use Donatello in the original NES Ninja Turtle game first! No reason other than I just feel comfortable with a little reach. haha

You're just talking about a character preference--but now that you mention it, that would be a great topic too. Start one up if you'd like! I do usually gravitate toward certain weapon types, character movement types, character classes, or other similar things.

Oh lord, I always move my characters to the music. How'd you know? D:

Whenever I play Halo I just can't help but [mod edit: D:] everybody I kill.

I looked up that term and wish I hadn't. :(

Post edited since we're playing cautious in this early period where we haven't actually decided what to allow yet. :P

Censorship alert!

Really though, just having you character do a crouch animation over the corpse of another player is pretty typical Halo behavior.

When I play Streets of Rage with my dad or brother, I try to fight to the beats! (Usually as Blaze)
